The result of both atomic bombs was to end WW2 that did not include the death of about a million Allied soldiers.
It was a terrible action but the citizens of Japan were ready to stand on the beaches with swords, pitchforks and any available weapons, allowing thousands more Allied troop casualties on order to protect their emperor. The two bombs ended the war and resulted in surrender of Japanese forces.
